Results from each test performed must be sent to the Newborn Screening Program.

Blood Specimens
Results will be available for the healthcare provider who submitted the blood specimen.

Fill out each specimen card completely.

1st specimens should be collected, according to whichever of the following occurs first.

  • 24 to 72 hours of age
  • Before a transfusion
  • Before discharge

2nd specimens should be collected:

  • 5 to 10 days of age
  • First visit to the healthcare provider
  • Unless you verified another provider collected the 2nd specimen.

Arizona requires healthcare providers to collect a blood specimen for patients up to one year of age unless results of previous tests are verified.

Labs should mail each blood specimen within 24 hours after collection and the specimen is dry.

Results from subsequent tests in response to an abnormal screening test must be sent to the Newborn Screening Program:  Our fax number 602-364-1495.
